Where the Noise Falls Away

Four landscape painters create space for stillness at Asheville Gallery of Art

In January, the Asheville Gallery of Art invites viewers to slow down pace with Serenity in Color. On view January 1-31, the group exhibition brings together four landscape painters — each new to the gallery — who share a commitment to visual calm. Among them is Lindsay Keeling, whose abstract landscapes are shaped by both creative intuition and careful structure. Though she studied studio art early on, Keeling spent more than a decade in the corporate world before returning to painting full-time. “Painting has always been a common thread throughout my life,” she says. Today, her abstract landscapes cull inspiration from the “peacefulness of nature.” Keeling says, “My work is an invitation to slow down and notice the beauty.” For Serenity in Color, she has prepared three “soft, serene landscapes” that “feature hazy layers of color along the horizon and subtle gradients in the sky.” Keeling will be joined by fellow painters Robin Dail, Cindy Wheeler, and Susan Viemeister.

Serenity in Color: January 1-31, 2026; Opening Reception: Friday, Jan. 2, 5-7:30pm
