Cold start to a new year: Asheville shelters serve during Code Purple, Jan. 1 and Jan. 2

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — It’s a cold start to 2026, with Code Purple shelters operating on Jan. 1 and Jan. 2 in Asheville, according to Asheville-Buncombe Continuum of Care press releases.

There will be two women’s shelters:

  • Safe Shelter – located at 27 Balm Grove
  • Transit route: W2, W1, W6
  • ABCCM Transformation Village (for women and women with children) – located at 30 Olin Haven Way
  • Transit route: W2

There will also be two men’s shelters:

  • Safe Shelter – located at 91 New Leicester Highway
  • Transit route: WE1 West
  • Salvation Army – located at 204 Haywood Street
  • Transit route: W5, WE1 West, WE2 West

For couples and people with pets:

  • AHOPE – located at 19 N. Ann Street
  • Transit route: W5, WE1 West, WE2 West

Entry for all shelters begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m., according to the Asheville-Buncombe CoC. Sobriety and ID are not required for entry…
