Wasting no time getting its first production of 2026 to the stage, the hardworking team at Asheville Junior Theater (AJT) transforms the Diana Wortham Theatre stage into Pride Rock for The Lion King JR. The musical adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet — featuring animals in place of Danish royalty — follows young Simba as he comes of age and fulfills his destiny to the tune of such beloved songs as “Circle of Life,” “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” and “Hakuna Matata.”
“Every show we produce is a community celebration, and The Lion King JR. is one of the most powerful stories we’ve ever brought to the stage,” says Kelly Haas, AJT artistic director, in a press release. “Audiences will be swept away by the music, the message and the energy of our incredible cast.”
Performances take place Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 10-11, at 2 and 6 p.m. Tickets are $25-$30…
