Village Wayside Bar & Grille, a longtime local favorite known for its warm atmosphere and scratch-made comfort food, is thrilled to announce plans to reopen in Grovewood Village in North Asheville’s historic Grove Park neighborhood.
The restaurant will move into the former ELDR space, which closed following the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene.
For 15 years, Village Wayside operated from the old Biltmore Village train depot—one of the area’s most iconic historic structures. The depot itself represents a pivotal chapter in Asheville’s development. When George Vanderbilt visited the region in 1888, he envisioned both a grand estate and a surrounding village. To bring this vision to life, he hired architect Richard Morris Hunt and landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted. Their combined efforts shaped not only the Biltmore Estate but also the community that became Biltmore Village.
