Several hundred community members marched through downtown Asheville to protest the Jan. 7 killing of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident, who was shot at three times by a federal officer while in her car.
At a press conference on Jan. 7, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem asserted the officer acted in self-defense and accused Good of weaponing her car in “an act of domestic terrorism.”
In an interview with NPR’s Morning Edition, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison disputed Noem’s characterization of Good. “She was a compassionate neighbor trying to be a legal observer on behalf of her immigrant neighbors,” Ellison said. “That’s what she was doing at the moment of her death. And she was a poet. She was a mom. She was a daughter. And I am deeply saddened by what happened to her and her family.”…
