MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — With $44 million coming to western North Carolina to start the Hazard Mitigation home buyout program, homeowners who applied in multiple counties are learning their counties are included in the first round of federal funds.
“It feels like once again, we’ve been forgotten,” said Bethany Hollifield, who lost her home in the Buck Creek community of Marion in McDowell County. “I feel like it’s the state’s doing.”
Hollifield showed News 13 communications she received from Congressman Chuck Edwards and Senator Ted Budd’s office, which she said states, “while under FEMA review, it was found that the cost effectiveness of the overall project had not been properly documented.”…
