Accident results in vehicle fire, sends 1 to hospital, backs up morning traffic for hours

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A traffic accident that resulted in a vehicle fire backed up traffic in the early-morning hours of Jan. 22 on Interstate 40.

According to the Asheville Police Department, the accident happened just before 6 a.m. on I-40 East near Exit 44 (the Enka-Candler, Smokey Park Highway exit).

“The initial investigation indicates a semi-truck was traveling Eastbound on I-40 when it struck a passenger vehicle stopped in the travel lane due to mechanical issues, resulting in a fire,” Asheville Police spokesperson Rick Rice told News 13…
