HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Several western North Carolina municipalities have announced plans to close facilities and cancel scheduled events ahead of a potentially high-impact winter storm.
The city of Asheville announced Thursday that all Parks and Recreation community centers will be closed Saturday, Jan. 24, and Sunday, Jan. 25, due to the potential for icy conditions. All scheduled events and basketball games during that time are also canceled.
Asheville leaders said drivers should avoid parking on the road after 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, to allow snow plows and treatment vehicles to operate. City-owned parking garages will remain open and free of charge beginning at 5 p.m. Friday for those who need to park…
