Crews work to clear secondary roads while NC officials warn of refreezing overnight

ASHEVILLE, NC (WLOS) — North Carolina officials urge caution on roadways as bitter cold and winds follow a weekend of wintry weather.

A combination of sleet, freezing rain and snow made traveling hazardous for much of the state on Sunday. The precipitation will be followed by frigid air Monday night and Tuesday morning, prompting Cold Weather Advisories for most of western North Carolina (WNC) and an Extreme Cold Warning for higher elevations.

“Thank you, North Carolina, for staying off the roads and keeping each other safe through this weekend’s winter weather,” Gov. Josh Stein said in a written statement. “Unfortunately, the risk of power outages and slick roads is not over – especially in western North Carolina. Temperatures will remain dangerously cold throughout the week, especially at night, so please stay safe.”…
