Icy roads force remote learning, closures across Asheville area

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Icy road conditions following a winter storm prompted several school systems in Buncombe County and the city of Asheville to alter schedules for Monday, Feb. 2, shifting students to remote learning or closing campuses altogether.

Asheville City Schools announced it will operate as a remote learning day because of hazardous travel conditions. District officials said students should follow their assigned remote learning plans available on the Asheville City Schools website, with additional information to be shared by schools. The district said student and staff safety remains its top priority.

Buncombe County Schools also moved to a remote learning day paired with an optional teacher workday, citing widespread travel impacts across the region. Teachers are expected to post assignments in learning management systems by 10 a.m. Monday or may have already sent paper packets home with students.
