WNC deputy dragged by car during high-speed chase

HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) — Two men were arrested on Wednesday after a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 40 that left a Haywood County deputy with minor injuries. The chase reached speeds of more than 100 mph before deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle near Lake Junaluska.

Deputies with the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office originally attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding in a work zone. The driver allegedly fled the scene, dragging a detective a short distance before leading authorities on a pursuit along the Great Smoky Mountains Expressway.
