Deputy hurt in crash while responding to call in Barnardsville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured early Thursday in a single-vehicle crash while responding to an emergency call near Barnardsville, authorities said.

Deputy Anthony Packett was responding with lights and sirens activated to a reported assault involving a woman around 1:30 a.m. when his patrol vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree near 16 Stoney Fork Road, according to the sheriff’s office.

Packett was taken to Mission Hospital with minor injuries. He is expected to make a full recovery…
