North Carolina – A burst of winter weather is set to slam the North Carolina mountains beginning Sunday, bringing accumulating snow, powerful wind gusts and dangerous wind chills through Tuesday.

According to the US National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory are in effect for much of western North Carolina, especially along the North Carolina/Tennessee border. Elevations above 3,500 feet could see between 5 to 10 inches of snow, with the heaviest totals focused on higher peaks in Avery, Mitchell, Yancey and Haywood counties…
