Man faces drug trafficking charges after trespassing incident, Asheville police said

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — On Friday, Feb. 20, a man was arrested on drug trafficking charges and more amid a trespassing incident in Asheville, according to the Asheville Police Department.

Around 3:30 p.m., APD said officers responded to a report of someone trespassing at Pisgah View Apartments. Upon arrival, officers encountered Brandon Matthew Byford, 37, who is prohibited from Asheville Housing Authority property, according to an APD press release.

Asheville police said they discovered the following trafficking amounts of narcotics in Byford’s possession during his arrest:

  • 45.41 grams of fentanyl
  • 11.65 grams of methamphetamine

According to APD, Byford was charged with the following:

  • Felony trafficking in fentanyl
  • Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell, distribute fentanyl
  • Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell, distribute methamphetamine
  • Felony manufacture, sell, distribute, possess a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Second-degree trespass
  • Resisting a public officer

Byford is in the Buncombe County Detention Facility under no bond, ineligible for release by a magistrate, the press release said…
