After record warmth, Asheville area faces first spring freeze this week

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — After some record warmth in the mountains, the region is once again bracing for a freeze. Friday will be the first freeze of Meteorological Spring.

Our last freeze happened on the morning of Feb. 24, when Asheville Regional Airport recorded a low of 20 degrees, and GSP hit a low of 24.

Spring freezes are common in the region, with Asheville’s last spring freeze usually happening in mid-April. The final freeze of the season has happened as early as March 11 and as late as May 18 in Asheville…
