FEMA OKs 6-month extension for direct temporary housing after Helene

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved extensions of direct temporary housing and rental assistance in North Carolina for survivors of Tropical Storm Helene.

According to previous Citizen Times reporting, nearly 1,000 homes were destroyed in North Carolina as Helene swept through the state in late September 2024. The Citizen Times also reported 340 homes were destroyed, 640 had major damages and 8,920 required habitability repairs in Buncombe County.
