Buncombe County officials discourage open burning amid high fire danger

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — As dry conditions remain in Western North Carolina, the Buncombe County Fire Marshal’s Office is discouraging open burning for residents.

According to a March 23 news release, the Fire Marshal’s Office’s advisory says that open burning is discouraged until conditions improve.

“North Carolina has experienced a significant lack of rainfall over an extended period, leading to moderate to extreme drought in many areas. In addition, Buncombe County is experiencing hot, dry, and breezy conditions,” the release said. “Dry grasses, dead leaves, and other vegetative debris could easily ignite and spread quickly.”…
