Town of Marshall interested in acquiring historic courthouse

MARSHALL – In October 2025, after voting to demolish its Tropical Storm Helene-damaged town hall, the town of Marshall informed the county it was interested in exploring acquiring the historic courthouse from the county, but the discussions stalled.

Now, they’ve picked up again, as the town reached out to the county about the Madison landmark, which was built in 1907 and suffered significant damage in Helene.

When Helene hit the region on Sept. 27, 2024, heavy rains caused catastrophic flooding of many rivers, including the French Broad, which devastated Marshall, destroying homes, roads, bridges and businesses. Helene killed more than 100 people and caused nearly $60 billion in damage across the state…
