Sometimes an old dilapidated footbridge turns out to be way more than it seems — and more controversial.

That’s certainly the case with the pedestrian bridge over Merrimon Avenue in Weaverville (technically Business 19) that I’ve probably driven under dozens of times and never really paid much attention to. Maybe I thought it odd that it was there, or that it seemed a little rundown, but I guess when you’re cruising below at 40 mph or so, you’re not pondering its provenance…
