Poncey-Highland residents push for neighborhood to be designated historic site

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The east Atlanta neighborhood Poncey-Highland could become a national historic site.

The Atlanta Preservation Center announced on its Facebook page this week that it is pursuing a listing on the National Register of Historic Places for the Poncey-Highland Historic District.

There are several historic buildings in the neighborhood; the Majestic Diner opened in 1929, the Plaza Theatre opened in 1940, and neighborhood staple Manuel’s Tavern opened in 1956 in a century-old building…
