ESPLOST overpayment forces hard DeKalb school board talks

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. (Decaturish) — Debates and split decisions were at the forefront of DeKalb County School Board’s June 15 meeting as the district grappled with an overpayment error in Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST VI) totaling millions.

“We don’t know exactly how much we owe. We don’t know exactly how we’re paying it, but it’s somewhere between … $10-15 million of ESPLOST money we owe the city of Decatur and the city of Atlanta,” Board Chair Allyson Gevertz said.
