ATLANTA — With America’s 250th birthday approaching, the nation is reflecting on the people, events, and achievements that continue to shape its future. Among those helping write the next chapter is 18-year-old activist Yolanda Renee King, the granddaughter of civil rights leaders Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King.
“I think I was in about 8th grade and I decided I wanted to get arrested in order to protest voting rights,” she recalled. “I actually had to convince them to participate in that.”
As the only grandchild of Dr. King and Coretta Scott King, Yolanda has grown up in the public eye. She first gained national attention as a child advocate speaking out against gun violence and has continued using her platform to address issues affecting communities across the country…
