Alleged card game scam leads to theft charge in Smyrna

Sonny Michael Hemmings, 24, of Ocala, Florida, is accused of stealing money from victims in a card game on June 19 at 1:58 p.m. at the Heritage Pavilion Shopping Mall, 2540 Cumberland Boulevard SE in Smyrna, according to an arrest warrant from the Smyrna Police Department.

Hemmings asked two victims if they wanted to play a card game. One victim sent him $1,000 via a Chime account and the other victim sent $1,500 via Apple Pay, according to the warrant.

Hemmings is charged with theft by deception – greater than $1,500. He was arrested on June 19 at 2:45 p.m. and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to jail records…
