A Clayton County renter says months without central air conditioning have transformed her apartment from a home into a daily struggle, leaving her worried not only about comfort but about health and safety.

Kimberly Smarr says she has been living without working central air conditioning since Easter and now fears the extreme indoor temperatures are taking a physical toll on both herself and a family member in her care.

“He’s suffering, I’m suffering,”Smarr told 11Alive while describing conditions inside the apartment.

Smarr says she is caring for her ex-husband, Sam, who she said is living with cancer and dementia. While temporary cooling measures have been introduced in parts of the apartment, she says the situation has made everyday life increasingly difficult…
