ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The Atlanta City Council Monday approved a resolution requesting Mayor Andre Dickens renegotiate the city’s “More MARTA” intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with MARTA, saying the deal should be updated to better reflect current priorities as both sides continue work on transit expansion projects.
“I think the IGA that we’re under now was a good first try, but I definitely believe that we need to have a lot more meat on that bone to rebuild trust with the public, to rebuild trust with one another, and to really see some shovels in the ground and projects to be delivered,” said Councilmember Thomas Worthy, who previously served on the MARTA Board for nine years.
The resolution, sponsored by a wide bipartisan group of councilmembers and amended in committee, focuses on clarifying roles and responsibilities between the city and MARTA as the More MARTA Atlanta program continues through planning, design, construction and future operations…
