Nearly 20 Great Pyrenees rescued from oppressive heat in southeast Georgia property

Atlanta Humane Society’s emergency response team, Operation Humane rescued 23 dogs from dangerous conditions on Thursday, July 9, 2026 in Candler County. More than 20 Great Pyrenees mixes (and a few other breeds) had been living outdoors on a property in southeast Georgia with little protection from the oppressive heat.

Operation Humane had been deployed after the Candler County Sheriff’s Office sent out an urgent call for help. When rescuers arrived, they found several dogs with severe arthritis and advanced hip dysplasia limiting their ability to walk or sit comfortably…
