A powerful storm system is dumping heavy rain across North Georgia and metro Atlanta, prompting flash flood warnings and expanded watches as officials urge residents to stay off flooded roadways.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning Friday for parts of six counties: 1) Cherokee, 2) Dawson, 3) Forsyth, 4) Fulton, 5) Gwinnett and 6) Hall. The warning was set to remain in effect until 4 p.m.
According to officials, between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain had already fallen in the affected areas by Friday morning, with forecasters warning that an additional 3 inches could fall before the storm moves out. The rapid accumulation raised concerns about creeks and low lying roads overflowing with little notice.
Two waterways under flood warning near Alpharetta and Suwanee
