ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Towns County Sheriff Kenneth Henderson, whose physical confrontation with a north Georgia police officer was first reported by Atlanta News First Investigates, resigned his office Monday morning and entered into a negotiated plea deal that will allow him to avoid jail time.
Under the terms of his plea, Henderson – who has since been suspended by Gov. Brian Kemp – pleaded no contest for battery against a law enforcement officer and pleaded guilty to buying/selling an item of value by a public official.
Henderson was sentenced to 10 years probation that will be eligible for termination after five years; a $1,000 fine; agreed not to run for Towns County sheriff while on probation; and agreed not to have any contact with Hiawassee police officer José Carvajal, the officer with whom Henderson engaged in the confrontation…
