A 41-year-old man wanted in connection with a shootout that left four people wounded outside a Bankhead convenience store has been arrested more than a month after the gunfire erupted, Atlanta police say. Antonio Knight now faces eight felony counts tied to the July 22 shooting at Lowery Food Mart, located at 644 Joseph E. Lowery Blvd. NW, along with weapons charges stemming from his status as a convicted felon.
Knight was taken into custody Monday through a joint operation between the Atlanta Police Department and the FBI’s Violent Crime Task Force, a standing federal-local partnership that cross-deputizes officers and agents to track down wanted violent felons, according to the Atlanta News First. He is charged with four counts each of aggravated assault and aggravated battery, plus possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held at the Fulton County Jail.
The shooting itself unfolded on a summer evening in the Bankhead neighborhood of Northwest Atlanta, when a man entered the food mart carrying a gun and an argument that had been simmering earlier that day boiled over into gunfire, per the outlet’s reporting. People both inside and outside the store exchanged shots, leaving four men — ages 30, 47, 58 and 60 — injured.
Victims Rushed Across Two Hospitals
When Atlanta Police Zone 1 officers first responded to the scene, they found two wounded victims who were taken by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
