Fulton County swears in 37 new jail officers amid staffing shortage

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Fulton County swore in 37 new jail officers Friday as the sheriff’s office works to address staffing shortages at the Fulton County Jail.

Sheriff Pat Labat said the jail remains short by 300 to 350 officers. The new hires will be assigned directly to the jail and will not be used at the Fulton County Courthouse or for other sheriff’s office duties.

“Where will you put them to work? They’re going straight to the jail,” Labat said. “It is an opportunity for us, a relief valve in a sense.”…
