Former Democratic state Rep. Dexter Sharper of Valdosta was sentenced Monday to no federal jail time after admitting that he made false statements in connection with fraudulently collecting $13,825 in COVID-19 pandemic unemployment benefits.
U.S. District Judge Mark Cohen sentenced Sharper to “time served,” which is effectively the time he was being booked by federal authorities. That was attributed to him quickly accepting responsibility and resigning from office.
