Sandy Springs Dollar Tree Customer Accused of Using Tesla to Run Down Cashier

A disagreement over an unloaded shopping basket at a Sandy Springs Dollar Tree spiraled into a felony case after a customer allegedly drove her Tesla into a cashier and two bystanders in the store’s parking lot. Sandy Springs Police confirmed that Cheryl Hardwick was arrested on September 28, 2026, and charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault following the confrontation on Roswell Road.

According to Atlanta Black Star, the dispute began inside the store when Hardwick demanded that cashier Morgan Lewis unload her items onto the conveyor belt. Witnesses said Hardwick hurled insults at Lewis, calling her lazy, after the cashier declined to do so. As reported by OK! Magazine, witnesses say Hardwick went further, asking customers if they had attitude for being lazy and Black, before the argument spilled out into the parking lot.

Witnesses Describe Tesla Charging at Group Before Video Began

Before any video recording started, eyewitness “shesweb” said online that Hardwick drove her Tesla into Lewis and two customer bystanders who had stepped in, striking them and forcing the group to take cover behind a parking lot light pole. The same account, relayed by The Nerd Stash, described the driver putting her vehicle in reverse and accelerating toward the group three to four times. OK! Magazine’s report adds that the eyewitness recalled running outside after the incident began and said Hardwick pushed her during the chaos.

At some point during the confrontation, Lewis reportedly smashed the Tesla’s windshield, according to OK! Magazine. Hardwick then accused Lewis and another Black employee of racism, shouting that the cashier had broken the windshield because she was Black, the outlet reported. Police ultimately arrested Hardwick after the parking-lot confrontation, and footage of the incident went on to draw millions of views on social media per OK! Magazine’s report.

Cashier Left Jobless, Driver Posted Bond

Hardwick posted a $60,000 bond and was released following her arrest, OK! Magazine reported. Lewis, meanwhile, reportedly quit during the initial dispute and was unemployed, according to Atlanta Black Star; OK! Magazine reported that Dollar Tree let her go after the confrontation went viral. Community members have since launched a GoFundMe campaign for Lewis, who is reported to be unemployed, while the bystander known as “shesweb” has sought a protective restraining order against Hardwick…
