Southwest Atlanta Gunman Hunted After Firing on Fleeing Woman’s Car Over Fender Bender

A fender bender on a quiet stretch of southwest Atlanta turned into a shooting last month when a man allegedly pulled a handgun and fired multiple shots at a woman trying to flee in her car. Atlanta Police are still searching for the shooter, who vanished after the shooting near the 900 block of Oakland Drive SW around 9:30 p.m. on September 27.

A Crash, Then Slurs, Then Gunfire

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the confrontation began when the woman reversed her vehicle into the suspect’s car in what police describe as a minor collision. Both drivers got out to assess the damage, but the station reports the man began shouting slurs and threats at the woman. When she tried to get back in her car and drive away, the station’s report says he pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots at her fleeing vehicle, striking it. Police have not disclosed whether the woman suffered any physical injuries.

Atlanta Police have released images of the suspect and his vehicle and are asking the public for help identifying him, per the same account. No description of the vehicle or suspect beyond the released images has been made public, and investigators have not said whether they have identified a license plate or tracked the car through regional camera networks.

A Neighborhood With a Violent Recent History

The shooting unfolded in an APD Zone 4 corridor that has seen repeated violence. Just blocks away, the Atlanta Police Department previously investigated a fatal shooting on the 1240 block of Oakland Drive SW in October 2024, which led to the arrest of a 21-year-old suspect in February 2025. Two days after this road rage shooting, Zone 4 officers responded to another shooting at 59 Oak Drive SW, which left a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy wounded, according to CBS News Atlanta.
