A group of Atlanta firefighters was recognized Thursday by the Georgia House of Representatives for their efforts in putting out a fire at a downtown high-rise last month.
State Rep. Mack Jackson lives at the Landmark Condominiums, where about 50 residents had to be evacuated as apartments on the first and second floors burned Jan. 17.
“We want you to know that not only does the Landmark caucus thank you, but this whole house thanks you for the job that you do for the people in Atlanta,” Jackson said. “We appreciate that we can call you and be protected in every incident in life. Thank you so very much.”
Jackson was joined by Rep. Lauren McDonald, who was a firefighter for 27 years and said it was important to recognize his brothers and sisters in the profession.
“It gives me great pleasure to be here today as one of them and as a representative. I’ve done some epic things in my life. I got married, had a couple kids. I like being here, but I love being a fireman for 27 years,” he said.
