Man Indicted in Fatal Crash Near Sprayberry High

A Cobb grand jury has indicted a Woodstock man in a fatal crash near Sprayberry High School in April of last year.

Aaron Andre Brooks, 19, was arrested in August for allegedly crashing into a car driven by Zhi Zhang while driving nearly 50 mph above the posted speed limit on Piedmont Road on April 29.

Police say Brooks was driving 94 mph in a 2012 Jeep Liberty five seconds before the crash.

He lost control of his vehicle while traveling westbound, entered the eastbound lanes of traffic and crashed into Zhang’s Chevrolet Colorado at Bob Bettis and Piedmont roads in northeast Cobb, where the posted speed limit was 45 mph, his warrant states.

According to the warrant, Zhang died from injuries sustained in the crash on June 3, 2023.

In addition to first degree vehicular homicide, a felony, Brooks was indicted on charges of serious injury by vehicle, speeding, reckless driving, failure to maintain lanes and violation of instruction permit.
