Man Accused of Stealing Mail in Smyrna

An Atlanta man has been accused of stealing mail.

Riquardo Jason Hawkins, 40, is accused of stealing mail on March 13 between 1:53 and 2:26 a.m. at a residence at 600 Atwater Drive SE in Smyrna, according to an arrest warrant from the Smyrna Police Department.

Hawkins was observed on a surveillance camera installed near the mailboxes due to recent mail thefts in the neighborhood. Upon arrival, police noticed a blue Tesla Model 3 a few spaces away from the mailboxes. After speaking to Hawkins, police observed a large green reusable bag on the passenger floorboard with a large amount of mail inside. Hawkins refused to speak to officers. Hawkins was also found in possession of a California driver’s license that had the wrong name and date of birth for him, according to the warrant.

After Hawkins was arrested, the vehicle was towed to the evidence lot and a search warrant was obtained. Seventy pieces of mail from 13 different addresses were discovered along with debit and credit cards that did not belong to Hawkins, according to the warrant.
