Marietta’s Daniel Haugh Headed Back to Olympics

Three years after making his Olympic debut in Tokyo, Daniel Haugh will be getting another taste this summer in Paris.

Haugh, a Marietta native and former Kennesaw State national champion, won the U.S. Olympic trials in the hammer throw Sunday, more than earning the necessary top-three finish to earn his berth to the Paris Olympics.

After ranking fifth and fourth following his first two attempts, the 29-year-old Haugh threw a season-best 260 feet, 10 inches on his third attempt and maintained his first-place stature, despite fouls on each of his final three attempts.

Haugh will be joined in Paris by three-time Olympian Rudy Winkler (258-10). He will be looking to improve on an 11th-place finish from the Tokyo Games, which took place in 2021 following their postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Haugh, the 2019 NCAA champion in the hammer throw and a current assistant coach for Kennesaw State, was not the Owls’ only representation at the Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon — nor was he the only KSU hopeful in the hammer.
