Granddaughter of Mississippi Civil Rights Icons Reported Missing

Nicole, “Niki,” Evers-Everette, the granddaughter of two well-known civil rights activists from Mississippi, has been reported missing since September 22.

The family has announced that Niki Evers-Everette, granddaughter of Medgar and Myrlie Evers, has been missing from her apartment in Duluth, Georgia, since Sunday.

According to a release from her family, Niki has not been present from work all week, and does not have her cell phone and other personal belongings. She last spoke with her mother, Reena Evers-Everette, on Sunday at 5:55 p.m.

“I am worried and terrified for my daughter,” said Reena Evers-Everette. “We talk regularly and it is also unusual for me to not be able to reach her.”

Niki’s car was last seen on Keys Ferry Road and McCart Road in McDonough, GA, on Monday evening. Her car is missing from her apartment complex.

Her family is particularly concerned because she has a medical condition that requires medication, and does not appear to have her medication with her. Niki’s mother said, “We are urging everyoneto keep their eyes open and report any sightings of Niki or relevant information to the Gwinett County Police Department at 770.513.5700. She has a kind soul, a big heart, and a smile that lights up the room. We need all the help we can get to bring her home safely.”
