ATLANTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and state lawmakers listened to business owners at a roundtable at the Waffle House headquarters in Atlanta on Tuesday.
Governor Kemp says Georgia is seeing too many unnecessary lawsuits which is hurting consumers.
Entrepreneurs say sky rocketing insurance premiums are a result of frivolous civil litigation lawsuits which they say make it hard to run a business.
Some business owners say they are working against the clock on two issues — one is on public safety and crime and other is the rising civil litigation costs. They say if it’s too high they have to relocate or close shop which then puts people in that area in a food island — forcing them to drive miles to find their necessary items.”
“We have to have the same level access for products, for services. If we areas in the state where the insurance is so high because of the risk is so high. My pitch is to you that we are out of balance and we have get back in balance,” said State Insurance Commissioner, John King.
