A Fulton County detention officer is out of the hospital and recovering at home after two men attacked him and left him to die.
In an exclusive interview with Channel 2′s Michael Seiden , Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat said that his detention officer was attacked on November 1 while working at HN Liquor on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard.
It was around 8:42 p.m. when surveillance video captured two men pull up to the store, but they never made it inside because one of the men was armed with a gun.
Labat said the two men left the store, but returned around 11 p.m. and that’s when the situation turned violent. Surveillance video shows one of the men punching the detention officer in the face and as soon as he hits the ground, both men take turns kicking and punching the officer while he’s on the ground.

“I’ve been in law enforcement 36 years, and it’s probably one of the most brutal attacks I’ve seen,” Labat said.
The detention officer was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for a fractured right knee, broken jaw and head lacerations, according to the arrest affidavit.
