23-year-old sentenced to life after killing man at DeKalb County motel

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A 23-year-old received a life sentence after being convicted of murder in DeKalb County on Thursday.

Tyler Merritt was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office said.

On Jan. 26, 2020, DeKalb County police were called to a motel in the 2500 block of Wesley Chapel Road in unincorporated Decatur. They found 50-year-old Wayne Cunningham in the parking lot with two gunshot wounds, which would prove to be deadly…
