Georgia renters beg landlords to repair heat in freezing temperatures

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – As north Georgia continues to experience freezing temperatures, residents without heat are reaching out to Atlanta News First Investigates for help after their landlords have failed to repair the utility.

While Georgia law states landlords must keep utilities in working order, it doesn’t exactly state how long a renter needs to give their landlord to make repairs and what renters should do if the repairs aren’t done.

Roy and Maxine Beene said they didn’t know their heating unit was broken when they moved in to a home in Rex, Georgia, managed by FirstKey Homes this past fall. It wasn’t until the most recent winter storm they realized the temperature wasn’t matching to which it was set…
