‘If he dies, he dies’ | Telfair State Prison inmate left to die in fenced in box in prison yard, lawsuit says

TELFAIR COUNTY, Ga. — When Juan Ramirez died at Telfair State Prison, the Georgia Department of Corrections listed his death as natural causes. He was only 27 years old.

But a lawsuit filed by Ramirez’s family argues there was more to the story. They say Ramirez was left to die in a fenced-in box in the prison yard as guards ignored his multiple, desperate cries for help.

At one point, their lawsuit claims a guard told other inmates, “F— him. If he dies, he dies.”…
