JONESBORO, Ga. (WKRC) – A jail entered lockdown after authorities realized a convicted murderer had gone missing from their care. 12 hours later he was found in a courthouse holding cell, having been accidentally left there overnight.
According to information from Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen obtained by WSBTV, workers at the Clayton County jail were sent into a panic when they could not find Julian Brooks Deloach, a convicted murderer who was on loan to the prison during trial for a misdemeanor offense. Deloach was convicted in 1984 but granted parole in 2010.
Sheriff Allen said there was a “mix-up” between employees when deciding who would take Deloach back to the prison – a misunderstanding which ended with Deloach being left in the courthouse holding cell for far longer than expected. The holding cell is attached to the jail and courthouse, but the officers reportedly didn’t think to check there since inmates are not supposed to be left there overnight. The cell only has a bench and is left unsupervised after 6 p.m., at which point all inmates are expected to be cleared out of the area…
