Second Suspect Apprehended in Atlanta Murder Case; Charged with January 2023 Shooting

The tension of an ongoing dispute has led to lethal consequences in an Atlanta community. Kentae Compton, born in December 2003, was apprehended in Albany, Georgia, by the U.S. Marshalls Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force last Thursday, May 15. According to the Atlanta Police Department, Compton has been charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with a shooting incident that took place at 8213 Brookwood Valley Cir NE back in January 2023.

In the same case, earlier o February 15, 2023, another suspect, Matthew Chalmers (born March 2004) faced similar charges and was brought to the Fulton County Jail, as per the department’s press release. It must be noted that, while arrest records and mugshots are a matter of public information, and despite the severity of the charges, these individuals are extended the presumption of innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The incident in question unfolded on a cool winter night, on January 14th, 2023, around 11:32 pm. Officers dispatched to the aforementioned address discovered a man who had been shot – his life slipping away amidst the silence of suburbia. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The preliminary investigation suggested that he was a casualty of a persistent altercation with a person he knew.
