Man arrested on murder charge after death at Gateway Center classified as homicide: APD

ATLANTA — What authorities initially believed was a death by natural causes at the Gateway Center has now been ruled a homicide, with one man facing a murder charge.

Records show Edward Denis was booked into jail last month for murder in connection with the death of 56-year-old Jason Gardella. Findings from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office and Gardella’s autopsy led to the murder charge. APD provided updates last week, saying the case wasn’t originally classified as a homicide until further confirmation came from the medical examiner’s office.

APD said on Jan. 21, officers went to the Gateway Center on Pryor Street to respond to a call about a person injured. The Gateway Center is known for helping people experiencing homelessness, providing them with support to find permanent housing and to become self sufficient…
