COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — Saturday morning at Chelsea Gardens, residents were seen hauling what belongings they could carry in suitcases. Deeper into the complex, stacks of mattresses and furniture were piled along balconies. Some apartment doors had been ripped off their hinges.
Shaun Adkinson, who has lived in the complex for about a year, says many residents are still trying to hold on to their homes — despite the city issuing official notices requiring everyone to vacate by June 1.
