Man who started fire in Norcross to evade ICE agents headed to prison

An undocumented man from Mexico who attacked a Gwinnett County police officer with a machete in 2022, and set a Norcross-area apartment complex on fire in July 2023 as he tried to evade immigration agents, will spend the next five years in federal prison, the U.S. Department of Justice announced on Friday.

Armando Carrillo-Diaz, 45, was sentenced in federal court in Atlanta on Wednesday on illegally reentering the United States, arson and assaulting a federal officer charges. He had previously pled guilty to the charges in January, prosecutors said.
