Metro Atlanta Burger King Grad Picks Gwinnett Tech for Auto Mechanics Dream, Fueled by Viral Fame and Community Support

Mykale Baker, the graduate who became an internet sensation for clocking into his Burger King shift in full graduation regalia, has announced his decision to attend Gwinnett Technical College this fall. The teen from metro Atlanta captured hearts when a TikTok video, posted by customer Maria Mendoza, showcased his commitment to his job immediately following his high school graduation ceremony. The video quickly went viral, applauding Baker’s strong work ethic.

Since the video surfaced, a GoFundMe campaign started by Mendoza rapidly gathered financial support for Baker’s education, amassing over $200,000, as reported by FOX5 Atlanta. To further sweeten the pot, the Burger King Foundation contributed a $10,000 scholarship, and similarly recognized Mendoza’s daughter with a $10,000 scholarship to support her studies at Georgia State. Baker plans to use the funds to study auto mechanics, endeavoring to turn his long-held passion for cars into a career.

Baker was unaware of his story spreading online when the donations started pouring in. “He didn’t even know his story was going viral,” Mendoza said in an interview with 11Alive. “But he moved so many people just by being kind, showing up, and doing the right thing.” This incident highlights the potential of community support in changing an individual’s life trajectory, empowering Baker to chase his automotive dreams…
