Man charged with leaving dogs in hot car at White Water

Christian Devon Waddell, 27, of Atlanta, is accused of leaving two dogs inside a black Nissan Sentra parked at White Water in Marietta, on July 5 at 5:45 p.m., according to an arrest warrant from the Marietta Police Department.

Upon arrival, police found the vehicle parked in the rear lot. The rear windows were slightly cracked and the two dogs were observed sitting in the back seat, panting heavily. The vehicle had a black interior and the front windshield was facing directly into the sun. The outside temperature was 91 degrees and aiming a handheld infrared thermometer inside through a cracked window, the inside temperature read 124 degrees. Based on this information, police asked Marietta Fire personnel to enter the vehicle and extract the dogs, according to the warrant.

After the dogs were removed and turned over to Cobb County Animal Control, police conducted a secondary interior temperature assessment. Readings showed 109 degrees on the rear floorboards, 115 degrees in the back seat and 132 degrees on the front dashboard, according to the warrant…
